About Jonny Craig AT EPIC PROBLEM
Jonny Craig began his singing career between the ages of 16-17 as the lead vocalist for Seattle based post-hardcore band Ghost Runner on Third in 2002.He received early praise with this new band's debut EP, Speak Your Dreams. Allmusic.com stated that Craig was quote: "the band's secret weapon, a passionate vocalist who doesn't rely on the usual emo techniques (belligerent screaming, post-hardcore barking, whiny moralizing — that sort of thing) to put across his angsty lyrics. There's not a bad track to be found here, but Craig tends to outshine his bandmates throughout.
Growing up in Lubbock, TX, Travis Garland was exposed to the arts at a very young age. He started off singing & acting in plays at his church and went on to attend the School For The Performing Arts in junior high where he received extensive training in music & theater. After winning a nationwide acting competition at 14 Garland relocated to Los Angeles where he signed with a manager & agent. He began going on auditions during the day but spent his nights developing his songwriting, and after a chance meeting with a friend from Dallas he was asked to join the pop group, Not Like Them.
Fast forward to a few years later, and NLT was signed to a major label deal working under the direction of Geffen Records Chairman Ron Fair. With Travis as the frontman & one of the lead singers, NLT was put in the studio to collaborate with top producers & songwriters including Pharrell, Ne-Yo & Ryan Tedder. The group opened on tour for The Pussycat Dolls and gained a small, but loyal, fan following. In 2007 NLT released their Timbaland-produced single "She Said, I Said" and scored themselves their first Top 40 Hit. They continued to tour, and caused a female fan girl frenzy headlining a national House of Blues tour aptly titled "Bandemonium". When the group eventually parted ways to pursue individual opportunities Travis shifted his focus back to songwriting, only this time for a solo album.
Currently, Garland is back in the studio recording his as-yet-untitled debut album for Interscope Records under the familiar direction of Fair. To give him a unique urban pop sound, visionary producer Nate "Danja" Hills (Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, Britney Spears) has signed on to produce the record. Garland will be writing or co-writing the majority of the album's tracks himself.
Travis' debut is slated for release later this year but first single "Believe" is about to take over the airwaves. With a strong team of collaborators behind him, and the endorsement of Perez Hilton himself, Garland hopes to come out with a bang and make a lasting impression on the music business in 2010.
