Experts will tell you, St. Petersburg, Florida is the place to travel for great weather in the winter and spring months. Occasionally, the city gets hit by storms and hurricanes too, but on account of the average sunshine, it has come to be known as “Florida’s sunshine city”.  Mild temperatures in the winter and spring and balmy warm temperatures in the summer make St. Petersburg an ideal spot for retirees as well as a wonderful spot for travelers looking to escape the snowy driveways of their winter wonderland homes. Peak Season for St. Petersburg visitors is January through April, with the hot and humid days falling in June through September.

Winter

Winter is the coolest season, but winter in St. Petersburg is more of a light jacket and jeans dress code than parkas and scarves. Temperatures vary between 60 to 70 degrees with a light sea breeze. Southern Living Magazine says, “The sun shines in even the dreariest month of the year in St. Pete. It’s a one-flight, one-bag reminder of summer.”

Spring

Frequent travelers know St. Petersburg to be a haven of beautiful weather in the spring. Temperatures range between 70-80 degrees. The sunny days of April and May are the perfect days for outdoor vacation activities. It’s the kind of weather that makes you want to throw on your shorts and sandals and join an Art Walk, stroll the pier or play on the famous Gulf beaches.

Summer

Summer is the worst time to travel if you sunburn easily or tire in the hot humid Southern climates. Summer in the St. Pete area can reach the high 90’s with thunderstorms and humidity of up to 97%! This is definitely not the place to ride a bike or sun on the beach during July.  Bring an umbrella and make for cooler air conditioned pastures like museums, nice restaurants and shopping malls.

Fall

In fall the weather is still hot, but not terribly so. Temperatures range from the high 70’s to the low 90’s. Towards the end of fall climate can vary from mild to cool so bring a light jacket and check the weather report before getting dressed. It’s time to venture outside again and join a Segway Tour or stroll through the Sunken Gardens, a four acre botanical attraction.

Whether you stroll into St. Petersburg during the beautiful weather of Spring or brave the storms of summer, there’s sure to be some great entertainment, lovely locals and gorgeous scenery to enjoy.
